Eugenio Briales

Eugenio Briales is an expert in financial market infrastructure, specializing in international restructuring, financing transactions, financial regulation, and FinTech. Mr. Briales currently serves as Restructuring and Finance Scholar at Harvard Law School and is Co-chair of the EU Economic Governance and Integration Study Group at Harvard University.

He is also a visiting professor at Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, where he teaches a course on secured transactions. Additionally, he is an active member of the World Bank Insolvency and Creditor/Debtor Regimes Task Force and a number of Asia-Pacific Financial Forum (APFF) expert advisory groups. During the past decade he has served in a series of senior law and policy positions, including the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization of American States, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Mr. Briales has also worked as a corporate and finance lawyer/counselor in one of the largest global law firms, DLA Piper, and financial conglomerates, Citigroup. Mr. Briales successively served as Representative of Spain and the Organization of American States as well as on an independent expert capacity before several United Nations bodies and frequently lectures and hosts conferences and workshops on topics relating to financial markets and international trade globally. A lawyer and public policy practitioner by training, Mr. Briales, received a J.D. from Complutense University of Madrid and Securities, Financial Regulation, and Public Policy degrees from Georgetown University, where he was a Global Teaching Fellow (Anti-Corruption and International M&A) and a Fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law. He holds executive education diplomas in global leadership, law and economics from Harvard University.
