About the MIT

The MIT community is driven by a shared purpose: to make a better world through educationresearch, and innovation. We are fun and quirky, elite but not elitist, inventive and artistic, obsessed with numbers, and welcoming to talented people regardless of where they come from.

MIT Official Website

MIT is an integral part of its host city of Cambridge, a diverse and vibrant community noted for its intellectual life, history, and thriving innovation climate. With a campus nestled between Central and Kendall Squares, and across the Charles River from Boston’s Back Bay, the Institute is optimally positioned to collaborate with its neighbors and to contribute to its community.

The Institute’s board of trustees, known as “the Corporation,” includes 77 distinguished leaders in engineering, science, industry, education, and other professions.

With 500+ student organizations (chocolate science, anyone?), nearly 40 Greek-letter and independent living groupschaplains for more than 20 faith traditions, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, student life at MIT offers a welcoming place for everyone. To complement their academics and research, students choose their own extracurricular adventures, from a spectacular array of ways to participate in music, dance, and sports to dozens of groups that savor and celebrate cultures from around the world. To help students navigate challenges, MIT offers a strong support network (bolstered by occasional visits from puppies, pigs, and pygmy goats).

Our campus is a workshop for inventing the future and we are all apprentices, learning from each other as we go. Because we like to make things, and we like to make an impact, iconic courses like 2.009 emphasize designing, inventing, collaborating, and translating students’ expertise to reach the world. Through signature experiential learning programs like UROPUPOPMISTIPKGIAPD-Lab, and Sandbox, students can pursue virtually infinite co-curricular and extracurricular projects — here at MIT, throughout the Greater Boston innovation hub, and around the world. Honeycombed with legendary laboratories and dozens of makerspaces, a wind tunnel, a research nuclear reactor, and a glass lab, our campus of idiosyncratically numbered buildings adds up to a prime spot to make the most of your potential.
